I believe nature knows best. Many times “problems” can be solutions if the garden system is adjusted to benefit how nature actually works. I believe in environmentally friendly approaches, which includes not only avoiding chemicals, but going further by inviting desirable naturally occurring elements, such as bacteria, fungi, plants, invertebrates, and systems in place to create a co-habitable ecosystem.

Permaculture stands for “permanent” and “agriculture”, or in other words, methods used to maintain a balanced system with nature to produce food in a regenerative capacity. While monoculture in typical agriculture systems plant annual crops using chemical methods, permaculture utilizes a diversity of plants and interconnected species to create a garden where the whole system is being assessed rather than just the monetary output of one crop. The goal is sustainable living to lessen the environmental pressure we put on the earth with our current production practices.

What makes me different is my approach to gardening. Just like there is a philosophical difference between a traditional M.D. doctor and a Naturopathic doctor, I am more of a holistic mindset kind of designer. I want the garden as a system to work at the upmost potential and be as easy to maintain for you as well!

I design with nature in mind while also meeting the goals of the client. I prefer to plant close together to avoid weeds having space to grow. I try to introduce native species when appropriate to bolster wildlife habitats. I consider the buildings aesthetics, passive effects of the landscape, soil and water conditions. I love to find pockets of opportunities to grow more plants and create a dramatic effect.

For a design, I will meet with you and we will walk around your garden/yard. I will take pictures and measurements of your space. We will discuss your goals for the area and what the landscape could look like based on the space. After meeting, I will create a design for you to give you an idea of what the space will look like. The detail of the design will depend on how much information you request, so I can work around your personal budget.

After completing a design, you may decide that you would also like me to do the installation! If the design is within a scope of work that I can do, I would be more than happy to do it! Depending on the season and weather, we will schedule a time for installation. On the day, I will make sure to have the necessary materials, tools, plants, etc. for the project. If any other adjustments are needed, I will discuss them with you promptly.
